Nicky has lived in Lee’s Summit for 18 years and has gained familiarity with the metro region on both sides of the state line as her 4 children played sports all across the area for more than 15 consecutive years. She spent a career as an educator, working initially in elementary, middle and high schools as a behavior specialist and then becoming a Professor of Educational Psychology. She worked at the University of Central MO for 24 years as a professor and, inspired by a friend who had been a realtor for nearly 2 decades, decided to embrace real estate as a second career. She was licensed just as the pandemic was shutting down the world - right before the market became really crazy! – she feels that her first two years in the business should count as dog years due to the competition and pace that buyers and sellers experienced during that time. It was a true baptism by fire. She learned to be creative in serving her clients and gained invaluable experience negotiating all sorts of deals!

As a realtor, her first priority is to help her clients get what they want – their happiness and satisfaction with selling their home or finding their new home is her goal. She listens to her clients’ needs and wishes to achieve the best outcome in every transaction, and also tries to add in some fun and humor – home selling and buying are really big decisions and she tries to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible. Her clients can count on her any time of day when they have a question, request or concern – she has excellent communication skills and her background in psychology and education has provided her with skills in direct communication and providing all necessary information to clients; she takes real pleasure in educating home buyers and sellers.

She continues to accrue real estate knowledge, studying trends across the metro area and suburbs and rural areas beyond, learning about different loan programs and special financing for specific subgroups of buyers, and seeing as many houses in person and online as possible. She can recommend professionals from lenders to contractors to support her clients' needs and has access to all the resources of the #1 team in the area, the Koehler Bortnick Team. She loves working with all buyers and sellers, from first-time buyers to those seeking to downsize, empty-nest and find their ‘forever home.’ She has learned much from working with first-time buyers, teachers, first responders, FHA and VA buyers, and investors.
